I am now available for private, one-to-one guitar lessons for adults and children. Here is a little bit of information about me...
I am an experienced teacher (CRB-checked) and performer and have been teaching guitar for over fifteen years. I was also a full-time language teacher for thirteen years, teaching English as a Second Language both in Britain and abroad, before becoming a permanent guitar teacher. I have toured and performed as a solo singer/songwriter, as a guitarist and vocalist with a 1920s Old Time Appalachian String Band and I am currently a guitarist with 1960s covers band The Parlophones.
I was also the guitar teacher at Lewes New School, Lewes, prior to the school's closure in 2018, and at Barcombe Primary School, prior to the Covid lockdown in 2020.
My approach to teaching guitar is based largely upon encouraging the student to feel enthusiastic about playing the instrument, while at the same time gaining the skills and techniques that they need to play the guitar. My lessons are structured to help each student achieve their musical goals, whilst also encouraging creativity, fun, musical direction and progress. I am always happy to answer any questions regarding teaching and my guitar lessons, so please do ask if there is anything that you would like to know.

Testimonials from past employers and current students:
Jaime has been a visiting guitar teacher at Lewes New School for almost 3 years. In this time he has been an inspiring musical figure for the children, and a friendly and reliable addition to the staff team. Jaime’s lessons are clearly structured, so all children feel they can progress at their own pace. He manages to seamlessly combine teaching music reading and technical skills with encouraging children to develop their own taste and interest in music and learn how to play their favourite tunes! I highly recommend him.
Sarah Thomas, Development Manager, Lewes New School, July 2018
Jaime has been giving me guitar lessons for just over one year now. I started as a 50 year old complete novice, having never played any kind of musical instrument before. The great thing about Jaime, besides his endless patience, is that he teaches a broad spectrum of guitar skills. I'm learning the basic knowledge of sight reading, scales and music theory on the one hand. On the other, we play lots of songs using tab, ranging from The Beatles to Metallica to Foo Fighters.
Jaime has a seemingly endless knowledge of guitar music and is also a very thoughtful and positive teacher.
I would thoroughly recommend Jaime as a guitar teacher to any age student. If he can get a tune out of me, he could get a tune out of anyone.
James Ch., April 2018 (still taking lessons in 2020)
I would highly recommend Jaime if you are looking for guitar lessons. The friendly, encouraging way he teaches has meant my two boys (who weren’t particularly keen on having lessons at first) really enjoy themselves whilst learning and making progress they are proud of. Jaime is knowledgeable and professional as well as being extremely likeable and fun. He offers exactly what I was looking for; a way for my children to be exposed to and become interested in the world of music without any pressure. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Jaime is an excellent guitar teacher. He is very enthusiastic and will take the time to tap into the best approach for each individual child. He makes his lessons interesting and gives lots of help and guidance with practice. He has given Albert a real joy of learning to play the guitar and as a result I have seen him flourish. Highly recommended!
Kirsty, April 2018 (still taking lessons in 2020)
I have been learning guitar with Jaime for four years now and cannot recommend him enough. I have progressed from being a strum-along open chord guitarist to being able to play complex fingerstyle guitar and am beginning to understand the basics of guitar music theory. Where Jaime is different from other guitar teachers is his ability to use the music his students like to listen to as a foundation for his teaching. This makes lessons and practice more enjoyable and relevant.
Jaime has also taught my two sons, currently 13 and 14 years old, electric guitar since they were 10 years old. As a result of his teaching methods and encouragement, both are now confident electric guitarists and play regularly in a band. Under Jaime’s guidance, my eldest son passed his grade 4 Rockschool examination with a Distinction and is now progressing directly to grade 6. This has been possible because of Jaime’s dedication and infectious passion for music.
